Children don their running shoes for Roundhay Run for Fun

Posted 27/06/2016

Primary school children from across Roundhay in Leeds donned their running shoes on Saturday to take part in the eleventh annual Roundhay Primary Schools Run For Fun.

The fun run, whose lead sponsor is Leeds-based Preston Baker estate agents, was established by volunteers to help children from several schools in the area to participate in a sporting event.

Attended by over a thousand primary school children and their families from ten primary schools across Roundhay, the event was once again organised by parents from the local area.

Angela Phillips, head teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School, said:

“The Run For Fun is always a real hit with the children and this year was no exception. It’s an occasion for the whole community to enjoy and is brilliant for bringing local primary schools together to all have a great time.”

Chair of the Roundhay Run For Fun organising committee, Veronica Shackleton, said:

“The Run For Fun was a resounding success. Lots of young people came along with their families, running or supporting the two races, and everyone had a fantastic day.

“We know that is important to encourage children to live a healthy lifestyle and being active is a big part of that. It was great to see everyone being so enthusiastic about running. Children had been training for the day and came along to have fun and meet their friends from different schools. The atmosphere was amazing with the right blend of competition and good nature.

“I would also like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors, particularly Preston Baker, whose generous donation helped us to supply 1000 subsidised matching T-shirts, the photo booth and lots of lovely finishing touches.”

Sukhwant Lota, who participated in the event with his wife and two sons, said:

“The fun run was such a special day and it helped to bring the local schools and communities together.  We had a great time and it helps to encourage children to take part in more sporting activities.”

To give extra support to the event, Preston Baker, which has offices in Oakwood, Moortown and Headingley, has been running a competition to give the best answer to this question:

What is your child’s number one dream home feature?

All answers are to be sent via Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #RoundhayFunRun, and the winner, announced on July 1, will receive a family ticket to Alton Towers.

Preston Baker co-founder James Baker, said:

“It was great to see everyone having a fantastic time on Saturday. It’s our third time sponsoring the Run For Fun and we are proud to have been involved once again, as it is a real feel good, positive day for all the family and helps to keep everyone healthy.

“We have already seen a great response to the dream home competition on social media, and we are expecting it to be a very difficult one to judge!”
