12th Annual Roundhay Run for Fun
It’s back! Come down and get involved at the 12th annual Roundhay Primary Schools’ Run for Fun on Saturday 24th June.
Bringing together children and family members from ten primary schools in the local area, there will be more than 1,000 people running either the 1km or 5km races (or both) at Roundhay Park.
Run by volunteers, it was the PTA and childminders that kicked this off in 2005 with the idea of encouraging pupils to be more active. Growing every year since, this will be the largest ever.
Preston Baker, the Yorkshire-based estate agents, will be the lead sponsor for the fourth year in a row, and along with other sponsors like Blacks Solicitors help the organisers to fund the event and t-shirts. Each school will get a split of the money raised – usually around £500 each, before any personal sponsorship.
Veronica Shackleton, chair of the organising committee, believes it’s all about getting children to be more active together. She said:
It is important for us as parents to inspire our children to enjoy outdoor activities, and this is the perfect way for children as young as four to start to compete in a friendly environment. The excitement builds more every year.
With dedicated profiles on both Facebook and Twitter, the event will be running its own #RoundhayFunRun hashtag and participants will be sharing images and videos on social media during the day.
Speaking of the run, Preston Baker co-founder, James Baker said:
It’s a great, non-competitive way of getting children – and families – moving. This year we'll have a videographer filming everyone crossing the line. We’ve enjoyed participating in this event each year and are looking forward to another great day!
