Acorn A R L Sports and Social Club is in Foxwood, and that is next to York Acorn Rugby Club and York & District Indoor Bowls Club. Hob Moor, next to Foxwood, is one of York's local nature reserves and a vast open space for residents to enjoy.

EATING & DRINKING

The Beagle, next to the Sports and Social Club, is the area's pub but there is also The Marcia Grey, The Acomb and Quakerwood - Flaming Grill nearby. Foxwood has three takeaway options with Butlers fish and chip shop, The Dragon House Chinese and Salsa Pizza, while Saffron Tandori Spice is an Indian restaurant in Woodthorpe.

SHOPPING

There is a newsagent, Co-operative Food and hairdressers in the heart of Foxwood. The nearest large store is a Lidl on Thanet Road. Acomb high street is a busier area for shopping and York is only a short journey away.

SCHOOLS

Westfield Primary Community School and York High School are both in Foxwood.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Foxwood is just 10 minutes from York city centre and also in close proximity to the A1237 making for easy access to Tadcaster, Wetherby, Leeds and beyond. There are regular buses into York and Leeds Bradford International Airport is less than an hour away.

HISTORY

This area, and neighbouring Woodthorpe, have grown from the expansion of Acomb, which has been a settlement since the 11th century. From a population of a few hundred in the 19th century, it is now a busy family area with thousands of residents.
