Being so close to the Peak District means that there are hundreds of walking trails almost on your doorstep. In Totley itself, there is the Green Oak Recreation Grounds and a cricket club. There is a popular history group, a church and Beauchief Golf Course is close.

You have a number of pubs to choose from in the area, including: The Cricket Inn country pub, The Crown Inn, Cross Scythes village gastropub, and Shepley Spitfire. These make up the restaurants in Totley too but there is a cafe on the main road and a couple of takeaways.

On the edge of the Peak District, Totley has an enviable position next to the scenic countryside. It also benefits from being just 20 minutes from Sheffield. It has regular buses going to the city and also making the similar length journey to Chesterfield.
Since being noted in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Totinglee, there have been ten different spellings before it became known as Totley. Between the 11th and 19th centuries, the suburb grew seven fold and the Hall was built in 1623. It is believed that Canon Hall has been around since 829.
