About Hambleton

Hambleton is a small village with a population around 2,000. In an advantageous position, it allows commuters to easily access Castleford, Leeds, Selby and York. This, along with its local primary school and rural charm makes it popular with growing families looking for spacious properties.

THINGS TO DO

Selby golf course is to the east along the A63, and the market town is home to a beautiful abbey. Scalm Lane and the public footpath through the woods make for excellent walking and the towns and cities in close proximity have a number of attractions for day trips.

EATING & DRINKING

Hambleton has two pubs: The Red Lion and The Owl. The Crown Inn is a popular spot in Monk Fryston and Thorpe Willoughby is home to Mitchell's Fisheries fish and chip shop and The Fox Inn. Selby has numerous international restaurants if you're going a little further afield.

SHOPPING

Hambleton has a small village shop that residents use for essentials. It also has a used car dealership, baby store and radiator shop. Selby offers a choice of Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys supermarkets. It also has a number of high street names including Home Bargains, Clarks, Peacocks and more.

SCHOOLS

Hambleton Church of England Primary School is in the village and most secondary school pupils attend Selby High School.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Set off the Leeds to Selby A63 road, Hambleton is a desirable area that is only three miles from Selby and little further from junction 42 on the A1(M). It benefits from regular public transport, Selby has the nearest train station and Leeds Bradford International Airport is less than an hour away.

HISTORY

There were around 500 people living here in the mid 1800s, and it was classed as a township, which was quite large for similar locations. Once there was a railway station here, and the A63 passing straight through helped it grow. Today, it is mainly a dormitory village for city professionals.

DID YOU KNOW?

There is a Hamilton district, also in Yorkshire, but that is further north centred around the market town of Northallerton.
