Camblesforth

Within the village there is the Drax Golf Club, near the power plant, and a sports & social club. It is a short drive to the nature reserves of Humberhead Peatlands and Skipworth Common, while the cities offer a more urban outing.

The Comus Inn and the Black Dog are the two pubs in the area and the Camblesforth Fisheries gives you a fish and chip takeaway. Just 10 minutes up the A1041, Selby has a variety of cuisine from across the globe and an active nightlife with many pubs and bars.

Camblesforth is served by a post office and Selby is the closest town with a supermarket. It also has an array of shops, as do the nearby York and Leeds.

Camblesforth Community Primary School caters for early education and Selby High School, Snaith School and Brayton College are all on bus routes for older pupils.

Being close to the M62 means that it is easy to commute or travel to nearby areas such as Doncaster, Leeds, Sheffield and Hull. On the A19 to the north is the road to York and you also aren’t far from the Yorkshire coast. Bus routes connect the village with Selby and Goole while Leeds Bradford International Airport is close for air travel.

Like most Yorkshire villages, Camblesforth was listed in the Domesday Book. For hundreds of years it was only a small hamlet and had just a manor house with a Lord of the Manor but in the past three decades it has grown to become a large village.

The Olympic Torch passed through Camblesforth during the relay ahead of the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
