Weetwood

Between Adel and Headingley on the outskirts of Leeds, Weetwood is a highly sought after area with stunning period manors, beautiful detached family homes and tasteful apartments on offer. With easy transport links into the city, surrounding areas complete with all the shops and amenities you need and an impressive selection of schools, it is popular with families.

THINGS TO DO

The Meanwood Valley Trail passes on the boundary of Weetwood and this seven mile walk takes you through rural beauty to the city centre. Nearby is the beautiful 12th-century Kirkstall Abbey, perfect for picnics and family days out. Other popular spots are Headingley Stadium for sport, the Hollywood Bowl in Burley with a bowling alley and cinema as well as Tropical World and Roundhay Park, which is a short drive away.

EATING & DRINKING

Being in the middle of some busier areas of Leeds, you get the option of keeping it quiet or heading to West Park and Headingley. Weetwood Hall has a beautiful restaurant, Gusto in Adel comes well recommended, the Dough Bistro is popular and both the Fisherman's Wife and Sukothai in Headingley are busy eateries. There are plenty more up and down Otley Road, along with numerous bars and pubs for a drink or two.

SHOPPING

Whilst there is a hair salon and running shop on the Otley Road, shopping needs to be done a little further afield in Headingley, Adel or Leeds. There are local Co-op's is West Park and Adel, and superstores can be found in Kirkstall (Morrisons), Headingley (Sainsbury's) and Meanwood (Asda and Waitrose).

TRANSPORT LINKS

Bus numbers 1, 6 and 95 run from Weetwood into Leeds city centre and come by frequently. The closest train station is at Headingley, and you are close to the A6120 which makes car travel easy and offers access to the M1 and M62. Leeds Bradford International Airport is less than 20 minutes away.

HISTORY

Still sparsely populated, Weetwood has little history but the Hall dates back to a manor house on a farm in the 16th century. It got its name (previously Wetewode) because it was the wet wood to the west of nearby Meanwood Beck.
