HISTORY

First noted in the 12th century as Tikehill, the most notable part of this town's history is Tickhill Castle, which was built shortly after the Norman Invasion of England when the lands were give to Roger de Busli. Around this the area grew and through the Middle Ages, Tickhill was an important town in South Yorkshire. By the 16th century castles declined in importance, and so did Tickhill, but today it is a small but busy town outside Doncaster.
